Diversity and Membership Inclusion Committee of KS Section AWWA
The Diversity and Member Inclusion Committee promotes volunteerism and seeks to provide opportunities that encourage the diversity of membership and leadership and creating a more inclusive organization. This mission aligns with the Section’s strategic goals focused on engagement, sustainability, knowledge transfer, and leadership. The success of AWWA depends upon the participation of all its members. We are committed to proactively engaging a membership that reflects the demographics of those we serve.
The section members and staff shall make it clear that discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, veteran status or disability, and harassment of any type are not acceptable and will not be tolerated. As such, in close collaboration with and approval by the Section’s board, our committee proposes to undertake the following actions:
- Incorporate diversity and inclusion action plans for all KsAWWA committees.
- Establish a quarterly virtual webinar of specific diversity, inclusion, and equity topics.
- Establish a diversity track at the Section’s annual conference including diversity and other non-technical topics (human resources, accounting, legal, and others).
- Establish an annual Diversity and Inclusion Award (individual and organizational) to recognize individual members and member organizations that have strong Diversity Programs or work environments that encourage employees of all backgrounds and abilities.
